The Hotel John Marshall opened in 1929 as the largest hotel in Virginia. Its rooms welcomed Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Tyler Moore, and Elvis Presley along with political figures such as Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter. After sitting vacant for over 20 years (save a few attempts to open) the building recently underwent a total renovation, spanning two years of construction to strip it back to the bones and restore it to its original beauty.
The Historic John Marshall Ballrooms offer a lovely venue for wedding ceremonies & receptions, corporate parties, and other special occasions. There are two stunning ballrooms, a pre-function space, and 3-room bridal suite.
Lobby opens with a marble staircase and palladium window. Follow the
original Terrazo flooring through to the Richmond Room where you will
find a built-in bar and pre-function space for a cocktail hour. To the left is the Marshall Ballroom with nine vintage crystal chandeliers & three walls of 30' windows and lead-paned glass encased in elaborate hand-crafted moldings. Straight back past the elevators is the Virginia Ballroom featuring a wrap around balcony that leads into the main floor from a split staircase for a grand entrance.
John Marshall Catering, Inc. and Homemades by Suzanne, Inc. will manage all of the catering for the ballrooms. You will not have to rent anything for your reception, as we provide tables, chairs, brocade linens, bone china, crystal glassware, and on Old English style flatware. Homemades by Suzanne has been serving the Richmond area's catering needs for over 30 years and was voted Best Caterer many times by the readers of Richmond Magazine.
